Spike Lee Will be Honored at Cannes Lions With New Creative Award
The filmmaker behind some of the most politically important films of the last three decades, Spike Lee, is to be honored at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity with a new award: the honorary Creative Maker of the Year.Lee, an Oscar winner whose films include Do the Right Thing, BlackkKlansman, Malcolm X and Jungle Fever, will be awarded for his contribution to the creative industry. He has worked in advertising through his own creative agency, Spike DDB, which has collaborated on ads with brands such as Chevrolet, Pepsi, the NBA, Jaguar and Doritos.

Cannes Lions honours visionary Academy Award® winning filmmaker Spike Lee with the Festival’s first Creative Maker of the Year award
The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity celebrates its 70th edition with this honorary award celebrating the creative maker.
Spike Lee will share his creative journey on the Festival stage on Friday 23 June.Cannes Lions has announced the first honorary Creative Maker of the Year award as part of the 70th edition of the International Festival of Creativity. The inaugural award will be presented at the Festival to legendary filmmaker, screenwriter, actor and producer, Spike Lee.When the Festival was founded in 1954, the original Lion was created to recognise world-class creativity in TV and Cinema advertising. Seventy years later, this award honours that heritage, and will celebrate an increasingly broad mix of creative makers who will bring ideas to life into the future.

T.I, prominent business leaders and innovators lead Black at Cannes’ event
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Black at Cannes event was held on Tuesday where several prominent Atlanta business leaders, innovators, and Atlanta rap legend and community activist T.I. discussed the industry, building brands and inclusion.
The event, which focused on Black Creators’ Influence on Brands was held at the Gathering Spot in Atlanta from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Kevin Warren, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and CX Officer at UPS was also among the van many speakers. Sharon Harris, the CEO and founder of the Sharon Harris Collective moderated the event.
Among other topics discussed was the power behind the culture, and black bias in the industry, according to officials. Officials add the event was also focused on building Black participation at the Cannes Fest in France.

Black At Cannes - A Different Perspective
After George Floyd, an African American man, who was killed by police in the US, a group of creatives came together to create an organisation to help Black and Brown creatives prosper.
Floyd became a global symbol of how Black Lives Matter in all spaces including creative industries such as advertising.

Expert advocates more black representation at Cannes
Peter Ukhurebor, Founder of Black at Cannes, a Neo-African organization, has lent his voice to the call for equity and inclusion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. He urged local agencies to make deliberate efforts to spotlight their works and improve participation at the annual awards as it is crucial to the growth of the African continent.
Speaking to MARKETING EDGE, the advertising expert who posited that the global award offers immense opportunities for brands and agencies to build equity, knowledge, and profitable partnerships, advised creative agencies to be more strategic and intentional for effective representation.
